Freeze & Fuse: Creating with Powder Frit, Water and Freezing
In this fun and approachable fused glass class, students will explore the Freeze and Fuse technique—an exciting process that allows you to create detailed designs such as flowers, leaves, animals, trees, and more. Using glass powders mixed with water in silicone molds, you’ll form intricate shapes that are frozen to hold their design before being kiln-fired.
On the second day, we’ll incorporate your finished pieces into a beautiful fused glass panel or another project of your choosing, giving you a completed artwork that showcases your creativity and newly learned skills.
For this class, we have purchased a variety of silicone molds specifically for Freeze & Fuse. Participants will build their glass designs directly in these molds, securing the materials with water before freezing the piece to lock everything in place. Once frozen, the artwork is carefully transferred to the kiln shelf and fired, allowing the glass to fuse while maintaining the shape and detail created in the mold.
This technique is perfect for creating charming, one-of-a-kind plates, panels, and decorative pieces.
What you’ll learn:
• How to design images such as flowers, leaves, animals, trees, and many more using powders
• How to work with a variety of silicone molds
• Proper freezing and transfer techniques
• Kiln firing basics specific to Freeze & Fuse
• Tips for successful layouts and clean results
No prior fused glass experience is required. We will take a one-hour lunch break to allow the pieces to freeze. You are welcome to bring your own lunch, or we can go together to 42 Deli on Main Street. All Freeze & Fuse glass created during the class will be divided among participants, so you will leave with a variety of finished pieces for future projects
You may bring any Bullseye COE 90 glass you may have to class to complete your project
