Beginning Ceramics

Tuition: $195, plus cost of clay ($30 per 25lb bag)
Ages: Adult
Students will learn the basics of pottery, classroom safety, clay properties, cutting, wedging, centering on the pottery wheel, and making basic shapes.
Class will begin with learning the fundamental skills of ceramics, such as the processes and properties of pottery and wedging. They will progress to wheel throwing and center, open, pull, and shape bowls. Once they have been created, students will learn how to trim, burnish, and add handles to their pieces before the first firing. When basic throwing skills are developed through practicing making cups and bowls, students will work on throwing a large pot by joining two matching pieces. They will work on trimming a larger piece and making other small pieces such as ring holders, sponge holders, spoon rests, and small pitchers. Students will also work on handbuilding as well as adding textures to their pieces. The class will finish off with glazing all their work.
