Sketching the Surface: Pottery Workshop

Tuition: $65
Ages: 16 - Adult
Join ceramic artist Cynthia Deutsch for a full-day workshop exploring the art of surface decoration through carving, sketching, and darting techniques. Designed for intermediate potters and curious creatives, this hands-on experience will guide participants through the entire process of creating beautifully decorated pottery forms.
In the morning, you'll throw your own clay pieces on the pottery wheel. After a quick drying session using hair dryers and heat guns to bring the pieces to a leather-hard state, you'll move into the decorative phase. Cynthia will demonstrate how to apply underglaze and use sgraffito techniques—sketching and carving away the surface to reveal intricate designs. You'll also explore creative darting methods to alter form and add unique character to your work.
This workshop is perfect for those looking to push their surface design skills to the next level and walk away with richly personal, finished pieces.
