Bottoms, Hips, and Lips: Making pouring and drinking vessels

Tuition: $20, clay and materials are included
Ages: 16 to Adult
Join potter Lee Taylor during our Celebration in Clay event, for an engaging and hands-on wheel workshop focused on the art of crafting functional pouring and drinking vessels. In this workshop, students will explore the relationships between form, function, and material by learning to shape elegant bottoms, expressive hips, and refined lips—the essential elements of vessels meant to be held, poured, and sipped from.
The workshop will also introduce the differences between wild clays and manufactured clays, examining how each influences the making process and final form.
At the end of the workshop, any pieces may be left at our pottery studio if needed to trim and fire at a later date. If so, you must arrange with our Pottery Studio Manager, Cyndy Littleton, times for you to come back and finish your pieces. If you have your own studio and kiln you may take your pieces home with you after the workshop, we just recommend setting them outside long enough to dry and firm up before leaving.
