Raku & Pit Firing event

Join us for a fiery day of creativity at our Raku & Pit Firing event during Celebration in Clay! Whether you're a seasoned potter or a curious first-timer, everyone is welcome to participate in this hands-on firing experience.
Bring your bisque-fired pieces and choose between the dramatic flair of Raku or the earthy beauty of Pit Firing. We’ll be firing all day long, and our Pottery Instructor will guide you through the process from start to finish. Your pieces must be made of clay meant for Raku or Pit firing.
*Maximum of 10 pieces per person, and all pieces must be less than 15" diameter. Please do not bring plates or platters. Our Pottery Instructor has the right to decline certain pieces if the size or shapes are problematic for our firing process.
Pit Firing:
- Please arrive by 9:30am to participate in the pit firing. Pots will be prepared and placed in drums to be fired throughout the day. Firing will complete by 4:30pm. Directions for cleaning your pots will be provided.
Raku Firing:
- Pots will be fired in a first come first serve basis. Glazes, horse hair, and feathers will be provided. Participation is welcome!
You may pay us in person the day of the firing, but we encourage you to sign up and pay for your pottery online before-hand to make the drop-off process easier for our Pottery Instructor, we just ask that you show us your digital receipt when you arrive.
Students who have taken our Raku Pottery Workshop do not pay a fee for firing pieces they have made in the workshop.
Cost: $5 per piece
All proceeds will go to support Asheville potters affected by Hurricane Helene. Help us turn clay into community care!
